At its core, the Taurus 692 Executive Grade is a robust, capable, double-action revolver made of stainless steel. But that’s just the start. What Taurus began in 2022 with its Executive Grade guns has spawned an entire lineup of premium wheelguns. These handcrafted revolvers are meticulously made and represent the pinnacle of what the modern-day Taurus is capable of. Watch our video above to see the Taurus 692 Executive Grade in use on the range.
We first saw the Taurus 692 come in 2018, and it was touted as a “multi-caliber,” double-action wheelgun with swappable, seven-shot cylinders. This meant you could go from a .38 Special and .357 Magnum chambering in one cylinder, and with the press of two buttons, quickly exchange the cylinder and crane assembly to one machined for 9 mm Luger cartridges and a moon clip. And the 692 Executive Grade is no different. However, Taurus’ foray into Executive Grade guns means that these aren’t your average Taurus revolvers.
Taurus first announced the Executive Grade treatment with its carry-oriented Model 856 back in 2022. And with the Executive Grade came features otherwise unseen on prior Taurus revolvers. The idea was to offer a premium version of already successful and reliable models. Think of these as “Custom Shop” guns.
All Executive Grade models come with a TSA-approved Pelican Vault hard case with a custom-cut foam liner. Once you get inside the Vault, you’ll find the 692 comes polished and left in the “white” with a satin-like finish throughout, except the guns’ cylinders, which have a brighter luster. Upon closer inspection you’ll see Taurus ships the Executive Grade 692 with a nice set of Altamont hardwood stocks. This is a two-piece design and offers a target-style shape with The 692 Executive Grade is not a small gun, but it’s also not too cumbersome for daily carry. It has that just-right feel—at just over 8” long, and with a 3” barrel, the 692 Executive Grade weighs in at 35 ozs. Our testers particularly enjoyed shooting this medium-sized premium Taurus wheelgun. Its seven-round capacity means one extra trigger pull over the standard sixgun. We found the hand-tuned trigger to be particularly enjoyable, too.
The target-style hammer spur, combined with target-style rear sight assembly, and classic brass bead sight up front, come together in an arrangement that is tough to beat. Our testers found the gun’s eight barrel ports truly help tame those heavy-for-caliber magnum loads, while also subduing even lighter 9 mm Luger loads. All told, this combination of features makes the 692 Executive Grade a solid casual plinker or dependable defensive tool, and it looks great, to boot.
