Ohio gun owners continue to pursue concealed carry licenses in significant numbers, even after the abolition of mandatory training and permits two years ago. Since June 2022, when “constitutional carry” took effect, over 30,000 new licenses have been issued and more than 134,000 permits renewed, underscoring a persistent interest in firearms education and legal portability across state lines.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost highlights the practical benefits of obtaining a concealed carry license, such as reciprocity with other states and the assurance that holders possess critical safety training. For many, like those in Butler County where applications rose dramatically from previous years, the license simplifies gun purchases and travel—a compelling rationale for choosing to be licensed despite no legal requirement.
