Steyn Sarduy, 19, is sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to his role in a dramatic smash-and-grab robbery at RC Firearms in New Kensington. On January 22, 2024, Sarduy and co-defendant Michael Guin utilized a stolen truck to break into the store, smashing display cases and stealing 24 firearms, of which only three were recovered shortly after the crime.

U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer highlighted the escalation in Sarduy’s criminal behavior, noting his troubled background while also recognizing his efforts toward rehabilitation. The judge’s decision reflects both the seriousness of the crime and a desire to encourage Sarduy’s future vocational training, as he aims to improve his life from a difficult upbringing marred by poverty and substance abuse issues within his family.
