A federal judge has vacated the convictions of Jeremy Brown, a Jan. 6 defendant and former U.S. Army Green Beret, who was previously sentenced to seven years for possessing illegal firearms and Army grenades. This decision, in line with a pardon order from former President Donald Trump, came after the U.S. Justice Department indicated these offenses were intended to be covered by the pardon, highlighting the complexities surrounding post-insurrection legal proceedings.

Brown’s legal troubles include charges for unlawful possession of a modified AR-15 rifle and explosive grenades, discovered during an FBI search of his residence in 2021. The case has gained attention not only for the scale of the weapons involved but also for the implications it poses regarding the application of presidential pardons and the judicial system’s response to them in cases related to January 6.
