Orlando police officers shot and killed a man armed with a handgun early Sunday after a physical fight broke out downtown. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. outside Thrive Cocktail Lounge & Eatery, where detectives monitoring the area witnessed the suspect’s handgun falling from his pants. As officers arrived, they observed the man fire a shot into the air, prompting them to order him to drop the weapon.
The suspect, who is reported to be in his 30s and has a history of drug-related misdemeanor arrests, was subsequently shot by responding officers and later died at Orlando Regional Medical Center. An independent review by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is underway, alongside an internal investigation by the Orlando Police Department, to determine the circumstances surrounding this high-stakes encounter.
