In a poignant letter, students who survived mass shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and Florida State University are demanding that Governor Ron DeSantis reject a proposed law to lower the minimum gun purchase age from 21 to 18. This demand comes just days after a deadly shooting at FSU, where a 20-year-old opened fire, resulting in two deaths and several injuries, reigniting concerns about gun safety.

Led by Jaclyn Corin, a founder of March For Our Lives, the students argue that rolling back the age limit would undermine the protective legislation enacted following the tragic events in Parkland in 2018. They emphasize that the current laws have saved lives, stating, “Rolling it back would dishonor the lives we lost in Parkland and Tallahassee,” and they urge lawmakers to consider the ongoing trauma faced by survivors.
