Malik Javier McKenzie, a 27-year-old Savannah resident, has been convicted of drug trafficking and possession of an illegal machinegun following a dramatic high-speed chase. The chase began when McKenzie attempted to evade law enforcement during a routine traffic stop, ultimately leading to his arrest after he crashed his vehicle and fled on foot. Authorities discovered a range of dangerous narcotics in his possession, including cocaine and the potent synthetic opioid carfentanil, along with a Glock handgun modified to fire automatically.

This conviction comes with severe consequences, as McKenzie now faces a minimum of 30 years to potentially life in prison without the possibility of parole. The case highlights the growing concerns regarding machinegun conversion kits in criminal activities, a trend acknowledged by law enforcement as increasingly prevalent. With ongoing efforts such as Operation Take Back America aimed at dismantling illegal drug and firearm operations, McKenzie’s case underscores the seriousness of the connection between firearms and drug violence in communities.
