Akron officials announce enhanced violence prevention and intervention initiatives ahead of summer, a season known for crime spikes. Mayor Shammas Malik highlights the city’s commitment to improving community safety through expanded outreach programs, including the Cruise Into Summer event on June 5, which aims to engage families with activities and resources as school ends.

The city’s new Akron Street Team works directly with at-risk residents, building relationships to prevent violence, while the Summit County Outreach Team provides critical mental health support. With a goal to increase youth sports participation to 64% by the decade’s end, Akron invests significantly in programs that foster teamwork and resilience among young people.
