A resident of a two-story, four-unit apartment block in St. Louis, Mo., defended himself from his downstairs neighbor, who allegedly forced their way into the upstairs apartment, according to police.
Officers say that the evidence suggests that the downstairs neighbor attempted to force his way into the back door of the upper apartment. The upstairs resident was home and armed with a rifle at the time of the incident, and when the downstairs neighbor entered the residence, the resident opened fire, fatally wounding the intruder. Authorities clarified that they believed it to be a case of forced entry but are still investigating the events leading up to the incident. (Fox 2 Now; St. Louis, Mo.; 2/2/25)

A man entered Vincent Hicks’ Phoenix, Ariz., market, aimed a revolver at a clerk and demanded money and cigarettes. Hicks, armed with a .22-cal. revolver, ran from the rear of the store and so startled the thief that he dropped his gun and ran.
Police pursued the suspect, who jumped a fence, landing in a yard that contained a very large dog. Police found the man cowering on his hands and knees. (Phoenix Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Ariz.)
