North Vernon Gun Dealer Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

A North Vernon gun dealer, David J. Mull, has been sentenced to four years in federal prison for selling firearms without a proper license, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana. Mull, 52, operated an unlicensed gun business selling more than 500 firearms to a primary customer in New York City, evading detection by sourcing weapons from private sellers at gun shows across the nation and ultimately facilitating the transfer of these guns to illegal markets in Mexico.

Evidence shows that Mull continued sales even after receiving a cease-and-desist letter from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in 2016. His activities not only violate federal laws but also contribute to the ongoing issues of cartel violence and drug trafficking, as highlighted by Acting U.S. Attorney John E. Childress. Mull’s illegal sales from 2019 to 2023 amounted to roughly $350,000, and he will face two years of supervised release following his prison term.
