A 31-year-old man who allegedly followed and threatened a woman walking into a grocery store in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., is in custody after being shot and wounded by the woman during the altercation.

Police say the suspect followed the woman’s vehicle into the grocery store parking lot, then waited for the woman to exit the vehicle before following her to the store entrance. There, surveillance camera footage captured the man allegedly threatening the woman before she drew a .22-cal. firearm and fired at him nine times, striking him in the abdomen and leg.

The man attempted to flee from the scene but collapsed nearby. Officers took him into custody and discovered a 9 mm handgun and several bags of crack cocaine underneath a vehicle near where the suspect collapsed. A further search of the suspect’s vehicle uncovered several bags of marijuana.

The man is currently being held on a $500,000 bond and faces charges of aggravated assault, illegal possession of a firearm, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of an offensive weapon, tampering with evidence and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. No charges have been filed against the woman who defended herself. (Times Leader; Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; 4/8/25)
