Dayton police are amplifying their calls for gun safety amidst a troubling surge of accidental shootings, including a recent fatal incident involving an 18-year-old. In the past two weeks alone, two separate incidents have underscored the risks associated with firearms in homes; one involved an 11-year-old child accidentally shooting their older brother in the face, while another incident resulted in the tragic death of Tayshawn Cobb when two young adults mishandled a loaded firearm.

Major Brian Johns emphasizes the need for preventive measures, especially in homes with children or when alcohol and drugs are involved. Both responsible gun storage and education are critical, with the Dayton police and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office providing free gun locks and training for residents. As the community grapples with these incidents, officials are urging parents to take immediate action to protect their families and reduce the risk of further tragedies.
