Caleb Morse, a veteran and owner of Rustic Renegade in Louisiana, transforms his gun shop into a sanctuary for soldiers facing mental health crises. After an Army buddy asked him to store his firearms, Morse realized the significance of providing safe storage for those at risk of suicide, especially given that over half of all gun-related deaths in the U.S. are attributed to suicide.

As part of an initiative called The Armory Project, Morse has stored around 100 firearms for veterans in distress, helping create a lifeline during crucial moments. With data showing that nearly 71% of veteran suicides involve firearms, Morse’s proactive approach aims to reduce access to lethal means during times of crisis. His efforts have inspired a network of gun retailers across the state to join, emphasizing community collaboration for a pressing public health issue.
