Worcester Police report that as of June 6, 2025, the city has experienced no homicides this year, a significant shift from last year’s tally of 16, the highest recorded since 1986. Chief Paul Saucier attributes this decline to various community outreach programs, including initiatives within Worcester Public Schools aimed at educating students about gang involvement and the risks of drug use.
While the statistics for homicides have drastically improved, Worcester has seen seven nonfatal shootings and 27 nonfatal stabbings in 2025, underscoring the ongoing challenge of gun violence. The police department is taking a proactive approach, implementing a Crime Gun Intelligence Unit and encouraging police visibility in the community to foster trust among residents and deter crime.
