This proposed legislation seeks to repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) of 2005, which currently shields the gun industry from lawsuits even in cases of negligence.
Duckworth emphasizes the pressing need for this reform by citing the “heartbreaking” impact of gun violence on families across Illinois and the nation. With support from over 80 members of Congress and various advocacy groups, this bill could pave the way for victims to finally gain the legal recourse they need to seek justice against negligent gun companies and dealers.
