The Colleton County NAACP recently convened the United for Safety Community Meeting, focusing on the growing concerns of crime and gun violence in the area. The meeting brought together local residents and representatives from the NAACP, the Colleton County Sheriff’s Department, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at reducing violence, particularly among minors and gangs.

Panel discussions allowed citizens to express their anxieties about gang activity and gun safety, prompting a call for improved communication and cooperation between residents and law enforcement. Edward Williams, president of the Colleton County NAACP, emphasized the meeting as the initial step towards fostering a positive relationship with law enforcement, aiming to transform community attitudes and enhance public safety.
