The Supreme Court unanimously rules that the Mexican government cannot pursue legal action against seven U.S. gun manufacturers accused of facilitating illegal arms sales to Mexican cartels. The court found that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA) prohibits such lawsuits, as the allegations did not adequately demonstrate that the gunmakers “proximately caused” harm under U.S. law.

This ruling could limit future legal avenues for gun control advocates, as it emphasizes the scope of protections for firearm manufacturers amid ongoing debates about gun violence and international criminal activity. The decision highlights a strained relationship between the U.S. and Mexico as both nations seek to address cross-border crime while navigating differing views on gun regulation.
