The gun store that sold the firearm used in the tragic Oxford High School shooting is requesting the Michigan Court of Appeals dismiss a lawsuit brought by the family of an injured survivor. Acme Shooting Goods claims it is too distanced from the incident to be held liable, arguing that there was no indication during the sale that the weapon was intended for a minor, despite allegations of a “straw sale.”

In the lawsuit, the family of Elijah Mueller, who suffered injuries in the 2021 shooting, contends the store should have recognized the warning signs during the purchase process. Matthew Turner, representing the family, asserts there is substantial evidence that will emerge during discovery to demonstrate the store’s potential negligence. The case has broader implications as legal experts discuss the accountability of gun dealers in mass shooting incidents.
