The Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) has filed a lawsuit against New Jersey’s ban on short-barreled rifles, arguing that it violates the Second Amendment. This legal challenge, known as FPC v. New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, directly targets the state’s definitions and restrictions surrounding firearms that fall under the category of short-barreled rifles, which are defined as having barrels shorter than 16 inches or overall lengths under 26 inches.

FPC President Brandon Combs emphasizes that the ban not only disrupts lawful firearm ownership but also contradicts recent Supreme Court rulings which assert that commonly used arms are constitutionally protected. As this lawsuit unfolds, it builds on FPC’s earlier successes in challenging firearm regulations in New Jersey, California, and Illinois, raising significant questions about the future of gun rights in the Garden State.
