Shiloh Community Center Reopening After Gun Violence Spike

Shiloh Community Center Reopening After Gun Violence Spike

The Linwood Crump Community Center in Shiloh, Asheville, is set to reopen on July 26 after a shooting incident prompted its temporary closure. City spokesperson Kim Miller confirmed that the center will resume normal operational hours, while the Asheville Police Department continues to address a troubling spike in gun violence, including three shootings that resulted in serious injuries just days before the reopening.

In response to the rising violence, Asheville’s Mayor Esther Manheimer and Police Chief Michael Lamb have expressed solidarity with affected victims and emphasize a collective effort to combat gun-related incidents in the community. They have called for community collaboration along with increased police presence, highlighting the importance of local engagement in maintaining public safety. The community center, previously a gathering place, is eager to welcome back residents while the police establish a focused task force aimed at prosecuting violent offenders.
