Gunmaker Sig Sauer has filed a lawsuit against Washington’s police academy following its ban on the P320 pistol, which officials deemed unsafe due to reports of unintended discharges. The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission took this step after investigating claims that the firearm can fire without a trigger pull, raising significant safety concerns for law enforcement personnel.

In a notable incident, Houston police officer Rick Fernandez is suing Sig Sauer for $10 million after he was allegedly shot in the leg by his holstered P320, prompting further scrutiny of the weapon. The lawsuit aims to reverse the ban and argues that it unfairly disadvantages law enforcement recruits who rely on the P320 as their service weapon, risking not only their safety but also financial repercussions for agencies that depend on this model.
