Madison Heights police report that an officer shot a man multiple times on Friday night after he pointed a firearm towards them. The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. in response to gunfire reported in the vicinity, leading to a swift response from police, who established a perimeter and located the suspect behind a residence. Despite rendering immediate aid, the man is currently in critical but stable condition at a local hospital.
Authorities recovered a .45-caliber semiautomatic pistol and shell casings from the scene. While no officers or civilians were harmed, the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave pending investigations by both the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Heights Police Department. These inquiries will culminate in a report for the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, prompting police to encourage anyone with information to reach out to Detective Lt. David Koehler.
