A 25-year-old Pittsfield man, Zyir Rasheed, is arrested for multiple firearm-related offenses after allegedly fleeing police while armed with a loaded handgun. The incident unfolded early Monday morning when officers responded to reports of a man with a gun downtown, eventually tracking Rasheed to a nearby convenience store where he was seen arguing with a security guard.
As police approached, Rasheed ran but was caught and found carrying a firearm with a round in the chamber. Notably, he stated he had been shot and stabbed hours earlier, raising concerns about his health and safety. Rasheed is charged with several offenses under Massachusetts firearm laws, including carrying a loaded gun without a license, and has pleaded not guilty, facing a dangerousness hearing later this week.
