Gun sales in Nevada have come to a standstill due to a cyberattack that has incapacitated the state’s background check system since August 24. As a result, only individuals with concealed carry permits can legally purchase firearms, leaving many potential buyers frustrated and gun dealers with inventory they cannot sell.

State firearm dealers received a memo confirming that their ability to process background checks through the Brady Point of Contact Firearms program has been compromised. Michael Alaimo, a gun store owner, voiced concerns over how this situation undermines citizens’ Second Amendment rights, emphasizing that the constitutional right to bear arms should not be sidelined. The state’s Division is committed to addressing the backlog of firearm transfers once the system is restored.
