It’s impossible to deny that the KeTec company follows its own path when it comes to the company’s lineup of handguns, rifles and shotguns. Case in point is the bullpup, pump-action, twin-magazine-tube KSG shotgun introduced in 2011. Six years later, KelTec introduced the single-tube KS7, which was impressive enough to be awarded the 2020 NRA Golden Bullseye Award for Shotgun of the Year. New for 2025, the company has updated the design with the KS7 Gen2.

The KS7 Gen2 is a update on the original that has been improved both internally and externally.

According to the company, the Gen2 KS7 is “Built smarter. Built stronger.” The internals of the shotgun have been refined for “faster, cleaner cycling” and ease of manufacturing. Other new features are tailored to make the KS7 more adaptable for the end user. The removable carry handle, which contained the iron sights, on the original KS7 has been replaced by an M1913 Picatinny rail with no iron sights supplied. The pump fore-end has been given a section of Picatinny rail for attaching accessories, but comes with a cover for when the rail is not in use.

The major external update to the KS7 Gen2 is the Picatinny optics rail on top of the barrel and a Picatinny accessory rail on the fore-end.

Like the original, the KelTec KS7 Gen2 is a 12-ga. (3” chamber) pump-action shotgun that ejects downward. A compact design, with an 18.5” barrel, its bullpup design yields an overall length of 26.1” and a magazine capacity of seven 2 3/4” shells. It weighs 6.8 lbs.

The KS7 Gen2 comes in two versions. In addition to the standard model, a “Defender” version is also offered that comes equipped with a set of Magpul MBUS iron sights, a Vortex Crossfire sight, Magpul RVG vertical foregrip, KelTec enhanced recoil pad and an anodized high-visibility aluminum magazine follower.

The KS7 Gen2 is also offered in a “Defender” version that comes from the factory with several accessories, including iron sights, a red dot and a vertical foregrip.

The KelTec KS7 has an MSRP of $639 for the standard model and $899 for the fully-accessorized Defender model. Currently, black is the only finish option, although the company plans to offer a variety of finishes, as it does with its other models, in the future. For more information, see the manufacturer’s website.
