This weekend marks the Youth Deer Weekend in Vermont and New Hampshire, inviting young and novice hunters to engage in a cherished outdoor tradition. From October 25-26, licensed hunters over 18 can take children 15 years or younger out to hunt one deer of either sex, creating opportunities for lifelong memories while participating in wildlife management efforts.
In Vermont, youth hunters must complete a hunter education course, while novice hunters—those who obtained their license within the past year—can also hunt under supervision. Deer must be tagged, with free tags available online, and hunters are encouraged to bring their harvest to 18 biological reporting stations for data collection aimed at assessing the deer population and informing future management strategies.
