An 18-year-old man, George Ruiz, is struck by a Fresno police cruiser while fleeing after allegedly firing a handgun in a River Park parking lot on August 20. Surveillance video released by the police shows Ruiz attempting to escape on foot after he allegedly shot at a passing car, only to be pursued by officers both on foot and in a patrol vehicle.
As Ruiz nears San Pablo Avenue, an officer can be heard warning that Ruiz is reaching for something before he is hit from behind by the cruiser. The dramatic footage reveals Ruiz tumbling onto the hood of the car, with his gun seen on the ground nearby. After the incident, he is arrested on multiple charges, including assault with a firearm, and is currently being held on a $575,000 bail.
