An altercation between two neighbors in a Loudoun County condominium ended with an apparent self-defense shooting, after one man allegedly became violent.
Police say the argument began as a morning dispute between two men after their dogs had become involved in a fight. The argument escalated, causing one of the men to fear for his life. He fired at the other man in self-defense, striking the aggressor once in the middle of the chest. Police were called to the scene shortly thereafter, and radio traffic indicated that the officers were prevented from reaching the victim because his dog was hostile and they feared an attack by the animal.
Animal control secured the aggressive dog shortly thereafter, and the wounded man was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died. Police initially detained the shooter, who was not injured in the incident, but released him shortly afterward without charges. A Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesman said they don’t plan to file any criminal charges, unless new evidence is uncovered. (Loudoun Now; Ashburn, Va.; 10/28/25)
