Known for its replicas of famous firearms, Italian manufacturer Chiappa is not afraid to take an original design and give it a modern twist. Case in point is the company’s M1 carbines, available in either .22 LR or 9 mm Luger. New for 2026, the company is taking its rimfire M1 one step further with the Bushranger.
The Bushranger is based around the blowback-operated, semi-auto action and alloy receiver of the M1-22. Controls are M1-inspired, from the right-side charging handle, to the rotary safety lever with the push button magazine release in front of it. The Bushranger feeds from the same 10-round polymer magazines as the M1-22. While two are included, extra magazines cost $22 and a five-round version is also available for $20. These features, plus the Bushranger’s oiled beechwood stock, hearken back to the aesthetics of the M1 carbine, but then Chiappa adds its modern twist.

The Bushranger’s barrel is 16.5 inches, versus the M1-22’s true-to-the-original 18 inches, for an overall length of 31.3 inches. While it appears to be heavy in profile, it is actually a medium-profile steel barrel within an aluminum shroud. The barrel’s muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 TPI for attaching suppressors and other muzzle accessories, and comes with a thread protector installed.
In place of the M1-22’s iron sights, the Bushranger has a Picatinny optics rail that extends beyond its receiver. The pistol grip stock has a heftier profile than the M1-22 and has an M-Lok slot concealed in the bottom of its forearm for mounting bipods and other accessories. The resulting rifle weighs 5.43 pounds.

The Chiappa Bushranger has an MSRP of $515. For more information, see the company’s website.
