A man defended himself and two others, including a small child, from an aggressive armed assailant in Morgan City, La., on Wednesday, May 15.
Police say the 32-year-old assault suspect approached the male victim that afternoon in what started as a verbal altercation. The suspect then struck the victim, and a struggle ensued. The aggressor then retreated to his vehicle and displayed a firearm. The victim was also armed and began to retreat into a nearby residence, when the suspect fired a shot toward him. The armed citizen returned fire, causing the 32-year-old aggressor to flee the scene in his vehicle.
Responding officers observed the vehicle fleeing the scene and, after attempting to initiate a stop, a short pursuit occurred. Eventually, the vehicle was stopped, and the driver was detained. Police noted that the vehicle had been hit by gunfire. A subsequent investigation corroborated the victim’s account of what took place. Police discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the suspect’s car. The man now faces a slew of criminal charges, including two counts of attempted second-degree murder. Reaching for his handgun instead of his stethoscope, Dr. Wally White of Burlington, Vt., frightened off a carload of hoods who approached him as he made a night deposit at his bank. At the bank, several men got out of a car and headed for White, apparently bent on robbing him. When White reached into his jacket for his gun, one of the men shouted, “He’s armed. Let’s get out of here.” The men cursed and fled. (Burlington, Vt., Free Press)
