An Idaho homeowner protected his girlfriend from a charging grizzly bear in the driveway of his home on Thursday, June 6, according to Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) reports.
An investigation revealed that the man and his girlfriend were unloading their vehicle in the driveway of their home when the yearling grizzly bear charged. The man was in the process of taking his shotgun out of the vehicle when the charge occurred, and he was able to quickly shoot the oncoming bear, which then ran off.
IDFG officers later received a call notifying them of a dead bear along a nearby road. Further investigation revealed that it was the same bear that had charged the man and his girlfriend. The department determined that the homeowner acted in defense of his life but reminded the public that grizzly bears are protected under Idaho state law and federal law.
