Everyone knows the versatility of a .357 Magnum-chambered revolver allows it to also handle .38 Special cartridges. Davidson’s Inc., in partnership with Italian manufacturer F.LLI Pietta, is taking that versatility not one, but two steps further with its new for 2024 King Trio convertible single-action revolver.
The King Trio is based on Pietta’s 1873 single-action with casehardened steel frame and brass trigger guard and backstrap.
The King Trio is based on Pietta’s 1873 single-action revolver. It has a case-hardened steel frame and blued barrel and cylinder. The grip frame and trigger guard are made of brass and grips are two-piece, oil finished walnut. Available in both 4.75” and 5.5” barrel lengths, the revolver’s action uses a classic four-click system and the sights are of the traditional fixed format.
The King Trio is available with 4.75” and 5.5” (pictured) barrel options.
The King Trio takes advantage of the fact that .357 Magnum/.38 Special, 9 mm Luger and .38 Super all use similar diameter bullets. This means that by switching cylinders, the revolver can fire all three cartridges. The King Trio is supplied with three fluted cylinders chambered in .357 Magnum, 9 mm Luger and .38 Super. The single-action design means that the two semi-auto pistol cartridges headspace on the case mouth, and the empty cases are removed from the cylinder with the revolver’s manually operated ejector rod. The advantage of such a system? According to Pietta, “customers have the peace of mind that when there’s a shortage of one caliber, they can easily switch cylinders to another.”
The trick up the King Trio’s sleeve is its trifecta of fluted cylinders that allow it to fire four different cartridges.
