The CZ P-09 C Nocturne is a compact version of the popular P-09 series, designed with both everyday carry and tactical use in mind. It’s similar in size to a Glock 19. Here are some of its key features:

Design and Ergonomics

One of the most noticeable updates to the CZ P-09 C Nocturne is its new grip texture. CZ has improved the grip texture, which now covers more surface area, making it easier to maintain a firm hold on the pistol. Previously, many users had to resort to aftermarket stippling or skateboard tape to achieve the desired grip, but this update addresses that issue directly. While the additional texture is better than the original, I’m not convinced it’s aggressive enough.

CZ improved their grip texture, but I’d say they should take it even further. Extra backstraps are included.

Another significant improvement is that the P-09 C Nocturne is now optics-ready, supporting the popular RMS Shield and Holosun K footprint. Red dot sights can now be mounted with zero hassle. This feature is becoming increasingly important as more shooters opt for red dot optics on their handguns. The slide stop and decocker have also been redesigned for better ergonomics, though I did find the slide stop slightly difficult to reach without adjusting my grip.

Performance and Shooting Experience

I had a positive experience shooting the CZ P-09 C Nocturne.

When it comes to shooting the CZ P-09 C Nocturne, my experience was mixed but ultimately positive. The double-action trigger pull is, quite frankly, one of the worst I’ve encountered—it’s heavy, long, and breaks at over 11 pounds. This is disappointing, especially considering this is an updated version of the pistol where one would expect improvements in such a critical area. However, after putting several hundred rounds through the gun, the trigger did smooth out somewhat, but it’s still not ideal for those who prioritize a light and crisp trigger pull in double-action mode.

On the other hand, the single-action trigger is significantly better. While it’s not the best out there, with a pull weight of around 5 pounds and some noticeable pre-travel and creep, it’s still manageable and surprisingly easy to shoot accurately. The pistol’s overall shootability is excellent, thanks to its low recoil and good sight tracking. The slimmer slide design, characteristic of CZ pistols, contributes to reduced recoil and faster follow-up shots.

The good news is that there are aftermarket companies making aftermarket parts to upgrade this trigger into something better. Cajun Gun Works is one such company, although I personally have no experience with them or their products. Maybe we’ll reach out and see if they’ll send us an upgrade kit to review.

Pros and Cons

I liked the sight tracking that the P-09 C Nocturne provided.

What I Liked:

  • Optics Ready: The ability to mount a red dot optic is a major advantage.
  • Improved Grip Texture: The enhanced grip texture is a welcome improvement over previous models.
  • Shootability: Despite the double-action trigger, the P-09 C Nocturne is one of the easiest pistols to shoot, with minimal recoil and excellent sight tracking.
  • Customizable Features: The ability to switch between a decocker and manual safety offers flexibility depending on user preference.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Double-Action Trigger: The heavy and long double-action trigger pull is a significant drawback.
  • Slide Stop Reach: The slide stop is hard to reach without adjusting your grip, which could be an issue in high-stress situations.
  • Magazines: While the pistol comes with two 15-round magazines, I would have preferred an extended magazine option right out of the box.

Final Thoughts On the CZ P-09 C Nocturne

At an MSRP of $549, the CZ P-09 C Nocturne offers good value for those looking for a reliable, feature-rich pistol for both everyday carry and tactical use. While the double-action trigger leaves much to be desired, the overall shootability, improved ergonomics, and optics-ready design make this a solid choice. If you can get past the trigger, the P-09 C Nocturne is a highly capable and easy-to-shoot firearm that’s worth considering.
