A homeowner in Sandjack, Texas, fired a single shot that ended a home invasion early in the morning of Wednesday, August 7.
Police received reports of a shooting at the home at 3:25 a.m. and arrived to find a homeowner who had shot an alleged intruder. The resident said he knew the person who had broken into the home and reported that the suspect had taken a cellphone and $60 in cash before the homeowner confronted the thief. After the homeowner opened fire, the suspect fled the scene, dropping the stolen property outside the residence.
Deputies were able to track down the suspect and found the person inside a house with a gunshot wound to the leg. The person was taken to a local medical center for treatment. (Beaumont Enterprise; Newton County, Texas; 8/7/24)

A 33-year-old Seattle, Wash., woman was in bed late at night when she heard noises in another part of the house. A man suddenly entered her bedroom, saying he’d kill her if she didn’t keep quiet. Pulling a pistol she keeps hidden near the bed, the woman fired twice, killing the man with a shot to the chest. (The Post-Intelligencer, Seattle, Wash.)
