An armed homeowner in Ogden, Utah, defended himself and a neighbor from a pair of aggressive dogs in their neighborhood cul-de-sac on Monday, July 22.
The man told local reporters that he had been working on his truck in a covered spot outside his home when the two dogs approached him. The dogs displayed aggression and were barking and growling at the man, prompting him to throw his hammer at them. The two dogs fled, giving the man an opportunity to go inside his house for a gun.
When he went back outside, he heard the dogs growling at his next-door neighbor, who had also armed himself. “They were after him, so he took one out and as soon as he shot his gun, the other pit bull came at me and charged me, and I shot him at point-blank,” the man told KSL TV reporters.
An Ogden City Police Department spokesman told reporters that the dogs had bitten another neighbor several weeks earlier. The owners had been cited for the previous incident. The department also confirmed that one dog was killed in the incident, and the other was under veterinary care. (KSL TV; Ogden, Utah; 7/22/24)

John Hofmaster answered an early morning knock at his Westmoreland, N.Y., door, only to be shoved aside by a man who scuffled with him until he managed to get the keys to the family car. Hofmaster broke free, retrieved a .45-cal. semi-automatic and fired a single shot through the car’s window as the thief tried to run him down.
