A disgruntled driver who allegedly drove down a pier in Bokeelia, Fla., in an attempt to run down a local harbormaster is dead after a bystander opened fire on the truck, according to local news reports.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office investigation, the driver approached a man on the pier and displayed a firearm. He then returned to his vehicle and drove down the pier, which was occupied by a number of bystanders and families who were fishing. As the truck approached the halfway point of the pier, a man opened fire, stopping the driver and the truck, which became stuck on a gate.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are still investigating. (WINK News; Bokeelia, Fla.; 8/1/24)
