A homeowner opened fire on an alleged intruder in Switzerland County, Ind., after the man broke down his door, according to Indiana State Police.
Just after 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, the 41-year-old suspect broke into the house and confronted the resident, who was armed and fired at least one round at the intruder. The suspect was hit and collapsed. Another resident inside the home called 911, but by the time EMS arrived, the suspect was already dead. Police say there were two adults and several small children inside the home at the time of the incident. (FOX 19 NOW; Switzerland County, Ind.; 7/26/24)

George Barker of Bakersfield, Calif., out for an evening walk, was approached by two men who said they had a gun and demanded money. Barker whipped out a pistol and forced the men to the ground until deputies arrived. (The Bakersfield Californian; Bakersfield, Calif.)
