An armed homeowner in Evansville, Ind., held an intruder at gunpoint until police arrived to detain the man.
Just after 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, police were called to the home, with the caller saying someone had broken in through their back door and was currently being held at gunpoint. When officers arrived, they found the 35-year-old suspect on the kitchen floor, being held there by the armed homeowner.
Police say the suspect had called 911 three times earlier that day, claiming that he was being followed and that people wanted to kill him. Officers said there was no evidence of alcohol or drug abuse, but they noted that the suspect was “clearly paranoid.” The man was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail and faces charges of criminal mischief and residential entry. A 60-year-old man was working on his car in front of a Madera, Calif., senior citizen housing project when he was suddenly attacked from behind by a hammer-swinging assailant. Driving by the scene, David Brown stopped his vehicle, leveled his licensed handgun at the attacker and held him until authorities arrived. (The Tribune; Madera, Calif.)
