Welcome to another American Rifleman Gun Of The Week video! We’re on the range today with an affordable over-under shotgun made by GForce Arms for Davidson’s Gallery of Guns. This particular shotgun is based on one of the most popular and well-regarded shotgun designs in history and has a link to the famed John Moses Browning. Watch our video above to see this scattergun in use on the range.
With Davidson’s being one of the largest firearm distributors in the country, the company can work with manufacturers to craft unique models and product combinations for their buyers. The resulting configurations from the Davidson’s network of dealers are designs you just can’t find anywhere else. For this Davidson’s Exclusive, the company worked with GForce Arms to produce a tastefully finished and affordable over-under shotgun based on Browning’s iconic Citori design.
We’ve looked at the Browning Citori before, and we’ve even taken a look at a Davidson’s Exclusive Browning Citori, and these are beautiful, well-built guns backed by an iconic American brand. However, for many folks, Browning’s Citori is a premium product that’s just not in their budget. To give cost-conscious shotgunners an option, GForce Arms has worked with manufacturers in Turkey to provide a no-frills model based on the original Citori design. Now, Davidson’s is taking the GF5 concept up a notch with its GF5 Plush option.
With 3” chambers that accept 12-ga. shotshells, this GF5 Plush is built for field use and comes with a set of five Benelli Mobil extended choke tubes to fine-tune your reach and shot pattern. The design features a set of blued barrels that sit inside a silver-finished receiver complete with attractive laser scroll-engraving. The ventilated barrels measure 28” long and are topped by a bright fiber-optic thread that provides a clear aiming point. A top-tang safety and barrel selector completes this action, along with a barrel latch lever located in the traditional position just to the rear of the receiver top.
Another nice feature of the GForce Arms GF5 is the finely textured Turkish walnut furniture, complete with a traditional Schnabel fore-end. Laser-cut checkering on either side of the fore-end and in the wrist aids in control and confidence while handling. At the butt end of the GF5 is a generous rubber pad that softens recoil for long days in the field or at the skeet range.
When it comes to fine field shotguns, it’s hard to beat an over-under for balance, durability and reliability, and the GForce GF5 Plush delivers all of that in spades. We appreciated the traditional elements retained from the original Citori design, all of which made handling and shooting easy, as it felt just like an over-under should. The chamber’s ejectors allowed us to retain spent shotshells with ease, making it perfect for the field, and we found the trigger, safety and barrel selector were crisp and easily actuated. For a budget over-under that’s designed for field use, this GForce Arms is hard to beat on price and does everything it is asked to do. The addition of finely finished engraving gives this dependable design an additional touch of class.
