Survivors of gun violence and advocates convene in Lexington to amplify their voices during the launch of Wear Orange Weekend, aiming to raise awareness about the ongoing epidemic affecting the United States. Every day, 125 lives are lost to gun violence in the country, a statistic highlighted by activist Chuck Eddy, who spoke to a crowd of approximately 45 people outside the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza.

Jamie Palumbo, who lost his brother to suicide by gun, shares the profound impact on families left behind, emphasizing the choice survivors face: to be consumed by tragedy or to channel their loss into action that saves others. Organized by Moms Demand Action, the event stresses that Kentucky ranks 14th in the nation for gun violence, illustrating the urgent need for community engagement and proactive measures.
