Berrien Springs Public Schools in Michigan have introduced a new AI-based gun detection system known as ‘Zero-Eyes,’ aimed at improving safety and response times during potential gun-related incidents. This innovative software overlays security camera feeds to identify firearms, transmitting alerts in real-time to a dedicated Operation Center staffed by law enforcement and military veterans for immediate assessment and action.

Dr. Tom Bruce, the district’s superintendent, emphasizes that the system can determine the authenticity of a weapon within seconds, distinguishing real firearms from harmless replicas. As this technology is now operational across all schools in the Berrien Springs district, stakeholders hope it will serve as a critical tool in reducing gun violence and enhancing overall school security.
