Bolt-rifle capacity seldom matters when you’re hunting deer and other timid creatures. It can be front-of-mind when dangerous game is sponging up bullets to reach you.
Morris Melani of Alaska Arms lives where hunters go after big bears in thick cover and stuff magazines with as many cartridges as they’ll accept. His new “drop-box” floorplate bumps the number by one in Ruger 77 (now Hawkeye) magnum rifles and by two in Ruger’s chambered for the .30-06 and kin. The standard Ruger floorplate is easily removed and its Alaska Arms replacement is pinned to the tab. The new floorplate accepts the original follower spring.
These drop-box floorplates are beautifully made as are the pre-64 M70 triggers Melani produces for 98 Mausers, and Alaska Arms QD scope rings for Ruger, CZ 550 and BRNO rifles. The natural matte finish complements stainless Ruger models but looks fine on blued rifles too.
