Asheville police have arrested 44-year-old Phillip Junior Mallard after he allegedly displayed a gun and was found to be linked to a recent convenience store robbery. The incident unfolded early Tuesday when officers responded to reports of a man brandishing a firearm, leading to Mallard’s arrest and initial charges related to public safety and concealed weapons.
Detectives later identified Mallard as the suspect in a robbery that took place just hours earlier, where he allegedly demanded cash at gunpoint from a store employee, making off with $4,000. After the police investigation, his charges were upgraded to felony robbery with a dangerous weapon, resulting in a significant increase in his bail from $2,000 to $12,000.
