A 21-year-old man from California has been charged with a felony after airport security discovered a handgun in his carry-on bag at Pittsburgh International Airport. Fatih Oruc, from Mountain View, faces serious legal consequences as he did not possess a valid concealed carry permit, leading to a potential federal civil fine of up to $10,000 for bringing a firearm through a security checkpoint. TSA officials alerted Allegheny County police, who confirmed the firearm upon notification. Oruc’s preliminary hearing is set for June 16, and the incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding airport security and the serious implications of carrying firearms in…
Gun Storage Check Week begins June 1 and runs through June 7, an industry reminder for gun owners to review their storage practices. This is the outreach program’s second year, and it’s sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and industry partners. “Securely storing guns when they’re not in use can save lives. It’s really that simple,” said Joe Bartozzi, president and CEO of NSSF, when the safety-focused week launched last year. “No one wants their gun in the hands of an unsupervised child, a person in crisis, someone who does not understand how to safely operate firearms, or…

Louisiana has officially become the 28th state in the U.S. to enact a constitutional carry law, allowing residents aged 18 and older to carry concealed firearms without a permit. Governor Jeff Landry signed the NRA-backed Senate Bill 1 into law just 57 days after taking office, highlighting his commitment to Second Amendment rights and law enforcement’s challenge amid rising crime rates in the state. Supporters of the legislation argue that this move will enhance public safety by enabling law-abiding citizens to defend themselves more effectively against crime, especially in areas experiencing high violent crime rates, such as New Orleans. The…
The firearm industry, each year, is dominated by new products, from ammunition products to new firearms, accessories and optics, with the latter indicating a trend taking shape in 2025. As technological advances often trickle down over time, it has become obvious to American Rifleman editors that thermal imaging has come to a more affordable, everyman price point. In addition, industrial progress now gives the consumer highly modernized and efficient optics that were once thought impossible to produce. Here are three new optics to look out for in 2025: Armasight Contractor 320 Lite Armasight added a new model to its Contractor…
(Continued from Part 1.) Emergency Communications The Emergency level (the “E” of the PACE acronym) methods of communications are used exclusively during recovery or for link up in the field where no electronic means are possible or desirable. The injured may need to use a whistle as their only means to call for help. Linking up in the field is a very dangerous situation that carries the threat of ambush with it, or even casualties from friendly fire. How the Emergency PACE level methods are used to signal using a code or a procedure only known to friendly participants must…
Last month, Slovakia’s government announced a plan to cull 350 brown bears after an increase in bear attacks over the last decade. According to the BBC, they declared this week that the culled bear meat could be sold to the public, provided it meets the required legal and hygienic standards. These decisions come on the heels of years of brutal bear attacks. The country reported a total of 54 bear attacks from 2000 to 2020, with the average number of attacks rising to about 10 per year. Just last week, a woman was attacked in a forest about six miles away…
The Connecticut Senate passes a controversial gun safety bill after an 11-hour debate, which aims to hold gun manufacturers liable for excessive sales practices. The legislation permits civil lawsuits against those in the gun industry who fail to implement reasonable sales controls, particularly concerning illegal firearm transactions. In a party-line vote of 25-11, the measure also tightens regulations on obtaining pistol permits for residents with out-of-state misdemeanor convictions. This legislation reflects a growing trend, as nine other states have enacted similar laws since the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act of 2005 limited manufacturers’ civil liability. Governor Ned…
At the beginning of World War II, Germany created a new standard in submachine gun (SMG) design with MP 38/40 series of Maschinenpistole. Featuring a compact, metal and Bakelite design with an under-folding stock, Heinrich Vollmer’s 9 mm SMG quickly became the envy of friend and foe alike. As the Blitzkrieg raged through Poland, then most of Western Europe, and then the expanse of the Soviet Union, the MP 38/40 was a prime firearm for German infantry, paratroops and vehicle crews.
