Officers from the Broome County Special Investigations Unit obtained information about Hicks’s possession of a gun, leading to the discovery of a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun, additional ammunition, and methamphetamine pills during the June 2024 vehicle stop.
Originally expecting a three-year sentence due to a lesser initial charge, Hicks’s case escalated following a subsequent arrest on drug-related charges while out on bail.
