In a proactive enforcement effort dubbed “Operation Thunder on the Mountain,” Birmingham police apprehended individuals for illegal fireworks and firearms on July 4, 2025. This initiative, executed by the Special Operations Bureau, aimed to enhance public safety during Independence Day celebrations in the Downtown Switch District, particularly around Railroad Park.

Authorities confiscated a substantial quantity of illegal fireworks, violating local ordinances, alongside several firearms linked to unlawful possession. All seized items were handed over to the Birmingham Tactical Unit for proper disposal following public safety protocols, underscoring the police department’s commitment to maintaining a safe environment during holiday festivities.
