A 49-year-old California man, Cameron Edward Francis, is charged with deliberately killing his girlfriend and attempting to murder a police officer during a dramatic incident in Polson on Valentine’s Day. Francis is accused of using an untraceable military-style “ghost gun” in both the domestic homicide and an ambush on Officer Michael Wharton, who was conducting a routine traffic stop when Francis allegedly fired nearly 30 shots at his vehicle.

Following the shooting, law enforcement discovered the body of Francis’s girlfriend, Kimberly Goodson, confirming she died from a single gunshot wound. A search of the vehicle linked to Francis revealed a military-style rifle equipped with armor-piercing ammunition, while footage shows the car fleeing from the location shortly before the officer was shot at. This disturbing case highlights the dangers posed by untraceable firearms and prompts questions about the suspect’s criminal history and motives.
