Muzzle compensators have moved from the realm of competition accessories to the world of concealed carry and self-defense firearms. Even when chambered for cartridges like 9 mm Luger and .380 ACP, micro-compact handguns, with their minimal weight and short barrels, can still be a handful. To address this, Smith & Wesson is adding compensated models to its most popular micro-compact lineups with the new-for-2025 Performance Center M&P 9 Shield X and Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comps.
Both new models feature Smith & Wesson’s integral Power Port Carry Comp, where a single port in the barrel at the 12-o’clock position mates with one in the slide to direct gases upward and minimize muzzle rise. The Performance Center Shield X Carry Comp is a polymer-frame, striker-fired, semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger based on the Shield X introduced earlier this year. Its features include a flat-faced trigger, Ameriglo sights with a front night sight, an optics cut slide with an RMSc footprint, flush-fit 13-round and extended 15-round magazines, stainless steel slide and barrel with Armornite finish and an accessory rail on the frame’s dustcover.
Despite its compensator, the Shield X Carry Comp has the same overall length as the standard Shield X, at 6.87” and 4.9” respectively, and weighs 0.2. ozs. less at 20.6 ozs. It is offered in three formats that all share the same MSRP — both with and without a manual thumb safety and in a compliant version with a thumb safety and both magazines limited to 10 rounds.
The Performance Center Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp is a polymer-frame, striker-fired, semi-automatic pistol chambered in .380 ACP. Its features follow the original Bodyguard 2.0 introduced last year, including a flat-faced trigger, aggressive slide serrations, Ameriglo sights with a front night sight, flush-fit 10-round and extended 12-round magazines, and stainless steel slide and barrel with Armornite finish.
To add room for the compensator, the slide and barrel of the Performance Center Bodyguard is lengthened by 0.35” for an overall length of 5.85”. The compensated Bodyguard weighs 2 ozs. more than the standard version at 11.8 ozs. The Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp is available in three formats that all have the same MSRP—both with and without a manual thumb safety and in a compliant version with a thumb safety and the extended magazine limited to 10 rounds.
Both new pistols have an MSRP that is $100 more than the base model they are derived from, with the Bodyguard 2.0 Carry Comp priced at $549 and the Shield X Carry Comp at $699. For more information, visit the Smith & Wesson website here.
