The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has moved its popular auctions to GunBroker.com, an online firearm marketplace that launched in 1999. The collaboration is part of the website’s non-profit initiative, which provides CMP and other qualified organizations a free online store and hosts their charity auctions free of charge. Every dollar raised through these auctions goes directly to the organization.

“The CMP’s intention in partnering with GunBroker.com was to reach a broader audience with our auction program, but we never could have anticipated just how popular our items would be on the site,” said Chris Hord, CMP chief product officer. “We’re greatly encouraged with the interest in our first couple of auction events and are excited about the opportunities we’ll be able to present to the firearms community through GunBroker.com’s robust platform. We appreciate their acknowledgement and support of industry nonprofits across their platform. The message of the CMP being dedicated to training and educating U. S. citizens in responsible uses of firearms and airguns through gun safety training, marksmanship training and competitions brings a new level of awareness to the GunBroker.com community.”

The partnership will ultimately support the future of competitive shooting and firearm ownership. “We were eager to work with the CMP to expand their reach and provide a seamless platform for their auctions,” said Allen Forkner, vice president of public relations and brand management for GunBroker. “This partnership ensures that all of the proceeds go back to supporting programs that foster marksmanship skills and the next generation of competitive shooters.”

For the next 93 years, it was managed by the Department of War or the Department of Army. Then, in 1996, Congress established the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and Firearm Safety—which now governs CMP—to oversee the program.
