An 18-year-old from Cottage Grove is facing three felony charges after he allegedly fired a gun during an attempted robbery behind a strip mall on Saturday, according to police reports. The incident unfolded when the young man arranged to sell THC cartridges but claimed he was confronted by a man with a gun who attempted to steal his items, resulting in a physical altercation and subsequent gunfire.
The situation escalated quickly, with the suspect reporting that the assailants shot at him; however, witnesses and the two individuals involved provided a different account, stating they watched the teen load his weapon before firing at their vehicle as they drove away. No injuries were reported, but police have emphasized the seriousness of the incident, with Chief Pete Koerner asserting there is no ongoing threat to community safety. The investigation is ongoing, and officials encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
